EU Passenger Car Registration in October Up by 12.2% YoY

In October, passenger car registration in the EU increased by 12.2% YoY, totalling 745,855 units. Meanwhile, in January – October 2022 EU registration of new cars decreased 8.1% YoY. In Croatia in the mentioned period passenger car registration reported a slightly lower decrease of 5.9% YoY, while only in October an increase of 7.5% YoY was noted.

In October 2022, passenger car registration in the EU increased by 12.2% YoY, totalling 745,855 units. The biggest increase reported in the EU by far was in Germany, Italy, Spain and France, where the reported increase amounted to 30k units, 14.7k units, 6.9k units and 6.5k units, respectively, representing 16.8%, 14.6%, 11.7% and 5.5% YoY increase. Furthermore, no major regions reported a decrease in new passenger car registrations during October.

When observing January – October 2022, the situation is relatively different – EU registration of new cars decreased by 8.1% YoY, reaching 7.5m units registered in total. EU new car registration remained in the negative territory, as recent improvements were not enough to offset cumulated losses in this year. When observing the whole period, Italy, as the major market, reported the highest decrease of 13.8% YoY with total car registration amounting to 1.1m units (decreasing by 174.9k units). This decrease was further amplified by a decrease in another two major markets, France and Germany. France reported a decrease of 10.3% YoY and Germany reported a decrease of 5.5%, which is a decrease of 141.8k and 119.7k units of cars registered, respectively. Spain, which is also considered a major market, also reported a decrease of 5.8% YoY in the mentioned period with a decrease of 40.8k units.

Looking at the region, when observing the whole period since the beginning of the year, Croatia reported a decrease of 5.9% YoY, amounting to 37.6k units registered. Looking at data only for October, Croatia reported an increase of 7.5% YoY, amounting to 3k units registered. Slovenia reported a similar situation – when observing the whole period, Slovenia reported a decrease of 15.1% YoY, amounting to 40.2k units of the car registered.
