Croatia’s GWP Development in September 2019

In September 2019, GWPs rose by 7.54% compared to last year. GWPs in non-life insurances grew 11.6% YoY, while life insurance decreased -1.28% YoY.

In September 2019, GWP’s rose by 7.54% compared to the same period last year. The total amount of GWPs collected reached HRK 8.16bn.

The amount of GWPs in non-life insurances, which traditionally account for the biggest portion, grew 11.6% YoY, amounting to HRK 5.8bn. Meanwhile, life insurance continued with a trend where more maturities than premiums contracted were observed so segment has realized a decrease of -1.28% YoY, reaching HRK 2.36bn.

Croatia Osiguranje accounted for 27.4% of the market, as the company’s market share decreased by 2.5 pp which is an increasing trend as in August market share has decreased for 2 pp.

When looking at GWP in the last 12 months Croatia Osiguranje market share has decreased to 25.97% from 26.2% in August. When observing their GWPs in September, they amounted to HRK 2.24bn, which represents a decrease of 1.5% YoY.

Croatian Tourism in September 2019

In September 2019, Croatia observed 2.29m tourist arrivals (-0.51%) and 12.78m tourist nights (+3.95%).

According to the Croatian Tourist Board, in September 2019, Croatia observed 2.29m tourist arrivals, representing a slight decrease of 0.16%. Of that, foreign tourist account for 2.10m (-0.51%). Meanwhile, tourist nights amounted to 12.78m, which is an increase of 3.95% YoY. Of that, foreign tourists account for 11.31m (+3.44%).

Tourist from Germany once again recorded the most tourist arrivals and nights, amounting to 0.42m (-2%), and 3.27m (+1.7%), respectively. Tourist from Austria follow, accounting for 8.53% of all foreign tourist nights. Next come Slovenian tourist who account for 7.9% of the total foreign tourist nights realised.

When observing the arrivals and nights realized by the type of accommodation, one can observe that hotels lead the list with with 0.98m arrivals (-0.3%) and 3.5m tourist nights (+0.15%). Private accomodation follows with 0.62m arrivals (-0.11%) and 3.7m tourist nights (+4.53%). Camps follow with 0.35m arrivals (-3.67%) and 2.27m tourist nights (+0.37%).
