Romanian M&A Market in Q1 2019

In Q1 2019, the total value of the Romanian M&A market, including transactions with undisclosed value, was between EUR 200m and EUR 300m. On the other hand, based on public sources, the transactions with the disclosed value reached a total EUR 120m (-53% YoY).

As Deloitte published an overview of Romanian M&A market in Q1 2019, we are bringing you some key takes from it.

According to the report, the total value of the Romanian M&A market, including transactions with undisclosed value, was between EUR 200m and EUR 300m. On the other hand, based on public sources, the transactions with the disclosed value reached a total EUR 120m, which represents a decrease of 53% YoY.

In Q1 2019, a total of 15 transactions were monitored in the Q1 of 2019, but the value of only two was officially disclosed. Meanwhile, when observing the same period in 2018, a total of 20 transactions were seen, of which seven with disclosed value.

The largest transactions in the Q1 2019 was the acquisition by investment fund MAS Real Estate of a portfolio of nine shopping centers. The value of the acquisition was EUR 113m.

Besides that, it is worth noting that Orbico Group acquired Interbrands Marketing & Distribution, one of the leading players on Romania’s distribution sector for an undisclosed amount.

Activity on the BVB in March 2019

The Bucharest Stock Exchange published their trading statistics for March 2019, showing an average daily turnover of EUR 8.3m (-11% YoY).

The Bucharest Stock Exchange published their trading statistics for March 2019, showing a turnover of EUR 174.5m, which represents a decrease of 15% YoY. This would translate into an average daily turnover of EUR 8.3m, representing a decrease of 11% YoY.

When observing the top traded shares, Banca Transilvania observed the highest turnover of RON 263.8m, followed by BRD which recorded a turnover of RON 153.6m. Next comes Fondul Proprietatea with a turnover of RON 95m.

Of the shares within the BET index, BRD observed the highest increase of 9.24%, followed by Banca Transilvania which recorded an increase of 9.21%.

Turning our attention to BET, the index amounted to RON 8,045.4 which represents an increase of 4.82% MoM and a 7.7% decrease YoY.
