Regulator Postpones Deadline for 5G Spectrum Allocation

The Croatian regulator for network industries, HAKOM, released a statement in which they announced the postponement of the deadline for 5G spectrum allocation to the first half of 2021.

The Croatian regulator for network industries released a statement in which they announced the postponement of the deadline for 5G spectrum allocation from the end of 2020 to the first half of 2021. The regulator cited the COVID-19 pandemic and the impact of the measures adopted to fight the pandemic on social and economic activities as the reason for the postponement.

More information on the new deadline regarding public auction will be published by HAKOM after reviewing all new circumstances that may influence the allocation of this spectrum and the public discussion.

In terms of how this might impact HT, the influence is rather benign as HT has already been preparing to for the spectrum allocation. However, note that they haven’t publicly stated the expected size of their investment thus far.

Hidroelectrica Receives Approval to Pursue CEZ Assets Acquisition

Despite protest issued by their minority shareholder, Fondul Proprietatea, the Romanian Government approved Hidroelectrica’s request to issue a binding offer for CEZ’s Assets in Romania.

Despite Fondul Proprietatea’s concerns that the acquisition of these assets will lead to a dilution of value (which we covered a few days ago here), the Romanian Government decided to allow the company to pursue the takeover of those assets. As a result, Hidroelectrica will submit the binding offer in consortium with Electrica and the Energy Participation Management Company (SAPE).

As a reminder, CEZ announced last summer that they want to sell their operations in Romania and other countries, in order to focus on their activities on the domestic market, the Czech Republic.
