In the first 4 months of 2021, Croatia observed fall in tourist arrivals by 8.4% YoY and a fall in tourist nights by 12.7% YoY.
Given that Easter occurred in April, it is particularly interesting to see the development of Croatian Tourism in the previous month. According to the report of the Croatian National Tourist Board, in April 2021 Croatia observed a sharp increase in arrivals, which reached 0.24m (vs. only 9,724 in April 2020). Meanwhile, tourist nights reached 0.85m, representing an increase of 116.1% YoY. Such a result could be attributed to a very low base, given that virtually entire Europe was under a lockdown back in April of 2020.
However, the figures are somewhat encouraging, especially given that as much as 61.9% of the nights realized come from foreign tourists. Of that, tourists from Germany lead the list with 13.6% of total nights realized, followed with tourists from Slovenia (13.3%).
When observing the arrivals realized in April by counties, Istria leads the list with 28.2% of the total arrivals and most tourist nights (31.7%). Turning our attention to the type of accommodation, one can observe that hotels accounted for 36% of total nights.
When observing the tourist development since the beginning of the year, tourist arrivals are still down by 8.4% YoY, while tourist nights noted a decrease of 12.7% YoY.
